Club History:In the winter of 1994, Chris Plankenhorn and Mike Murafka formed the Susquehanna Valley Velo Club. The club was largely the successor to the Williamsport Wheelmen, a racing team formerly organized by Tom Fitzpatrick, of TA Cyclery. The SVVCs initial purpose was competitive bicycle racing and training, and its members raced in local and regional road races, criteriums and time trials throughout the Northeast Region. Today the SVVC has emerged as a leader in competitve and recreational cycling in the Susquehanna Valley. Membership in the club has spread from its original base in Williamsport to the surrounding areas including Lock Haven, State College and Lewisburg. The SVVC continues its dedication to road racing, and its members compete throughout the Northeast and have won state championship titles in many areas of road racing. The best example of the clubs dedication to road racing is the Dave Wollet Memorial Criterium which in 1999 developed into a multiple day event drawing some of the best cyclists from the region. The SVVC also is strongly committed to mountain biking. The club organizes mountain bike training rides and is the sponsor of the Crystal Lake Mountain Bike Race. Last but not least, the SVVC is very proud of its recreational riders who are not licensed racers but truly enjoy the sport of cycling. Club Sponsors: |
